Free Press Unlimited is currently looking for an event creator and event planner (online and offline) for the Syria media program

Free Press Unlimited, based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands strongly believes that all people are entitled to have access to unbiased, reliable and timely information. This enables them to assess their own living conditions, influence these and make the right decisions. Press freedom and freedom of information are vital for gathering and spreading reliable, unbiased information. Media plays a crucial role in providing people free and unrestricted access to information that can help them develop and monitor the authorities. We want to make and keep objective news and information available to everyone, especially to people in countries without or with limited (press) freedom.

Objective of the assignment

This freelance position requires applicants with previous experience in content creation/production for various event formats.

A freelance job where you will be fully immersed in press freedom, media development and advocacy for media, from researching themes and relevant social, political and economic developments, to bringing the events to life with attracting titles, content creation and logistical organisation. We are looking for someone to organise events (online and offline), who is an effective communicator and who takes initiatives and oversight in planning, with familiarity in online moderation, formats and platforms. Attention to detail, a go-getter mindset and ability to oversee a project from A to Z is integral - through planning, budgeting, dealing with logistics of participants, floor management and reporting.

A suitable candidate would be enthusiastic to dive into research materials and content to bring it to life in events, and to maximise the event experience for attendees online and offline. This position also requires people who are forthcoming to communicate with the many stakeholders, partners, consultants and logistic/service delivery companies to organise and curate relevant event content. Important that besides the logistical set up, the candidate will be able to draw conclusions, analysis and create outputs based on the outcomes of discussions.

This per-event assignment will require an output from between 4 and 8 events, and flexible timings. Candidates should be aware that the workload can be of high intensity during and leading up to the events, so they should be capable of dealing with such workloads; have good time management and be able to combine this assignment with others.
 

Responsibilities

  • Able to implement and manage an event through the whole cycle - Before an event: Create the content based on Free Press Unlimited consultation, the event planners, agendas, participants list, materials, invitations and outreach, organise logistics; During the event: Monitor the progress, be there as technical support, and delegate tasks to members of the team, identify the priorities and main takeaways; After the event: Follow up with participants to communicate results, ensure administration is wrapped up with the team, produce communication material and event evaluations;

  • Understand and knows how to use and shape online moderation of events;

  • Be able to engage with target groups of Syrians (wherever they are based and in diaspora), civil society engaged with Syria, think tanks, policy makers, public opinion leaders, activists;

  • Develop communication and outreach activities for audience engagement;

  • Work within existing project networks and stakeholders;

  • Promote equal opportunities: full diversity of attendees and cultural development in accordance with equality and diversity and media cohesion policy;

  • Ensures quality and donor compliance;

  • Reports to a supervisor, but works with a team and in a cooperative team environment.
     

Requirements

  • Can work in English and Arabic;

  • Knowledge of media sector in MENA and preferably the Syrian context (an advantage);

  • Experience with event management (off and online);

  • Candidates with experience in communications, PR, setting up talk shows, debates etc, with a background in political/cultural/ or media sector have an advantage;

  • Accurate mindset, self-critical and service driven;

  • High level of integrity and security sensitivity;

  • Proactive mentality;

  • Able to receive and give constructive feedback;

  • Affinity with journalism, media and/or human rights is a must.
