62 media organisations, journalists, civil society organisations and press freedom groups speak out on the importance of the protection of journalists.

On the occasion of the the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes Against Journalists, Free Press Unlimited has published a call-to-action co-signed by 62 media organisations, journalists, civil society organisations and press freedom groups, such as the International Press Institute, Reporters Without Borders and Novaya Gazeta. They speak out on the importance of the protection of journalists and commit to tell the stories about violence against their colleagues all over the world.

On November 2nd, journalists, policy makers and media organisations raise awareness about the issue of impunity of journalists. A major challenge still, since only 1 in 10 killings of journalists are being prosecuted, let alone other types of violence. We strongly feel that it is time for us, as media and publishers, journalists, media professionals and other members of the media community to raise our voice and start speaking up about the violence against our profession. To use our audiences and platforms to get the world to listen and increase the pressure on those responsible for violence.

We believe solidarity within the media community can prove crucial in fighting impunity.
