Radio should globally be recognized as a low-cost media, which effectively supplies remote communities with independent news. Moreover, it reaches vulnerable groups, such as the illiterate, disabled, women, youth and the poor. Everyday radio proves to be a hard-to-censor efficient means of communication in conflict areas, facilitating disaster relief.
Furthermore, this international day will create a global network of radio-stations, exchanging know-how and strategies. The committee initiating the World Radio Day, consists out of the following twelve international organisations.
