A Safer World For The Truth: multimedia productions

As part of the A Safer World for the Truth project, Free Press Unlimited actively developed and disseminated various multimedia productions.

Online Monument

1463 journalists have been killed since 1992. For doing their jobs. This number will grow by the day. We must not forget that this number consists of human lives. These numbers were people. They were journalists, and killed because of it. That is why we have built an online monument. To document. To remember.

Short documentaries

In collaboration with independent documentary makers, we developed two short-form documentaries. The first, ‘Killing the Truth’, highlights the issue of impunity and the persistent problem of murders of journalists. The second, ‘Breaking the Silence’, analyzes impunity after the murder of Pakistani journalist Zubair Mujahid.

Long form documentary Gauri Lankesh

Free Press Unlimited provided funding for the development of a long form documentary into the life and death of prominent Indian journalist and activist Gauri Lankesh, produced by her sister, Kavitha Lankesh. The documentary has since won two international awards: Best Film at the South Asian Film Festival of Montreal, and Best Human Rights Film at Toronto’s Women’s Film Festival.

A brave and uncompromising pulse-taking of the current crisis in Indian politics, focusing on the 2017 political assassination of trailblazing Bengaluru journalist Gauri Lankesh. A “J’accuse” docu-thriller directed and narrated with verve by Gauri’s sister.” - The jury of the South Asian Film Festival

Podcasts

In collaboration with OpenDemocracy, we developed a four-part podcast and several articles into the murders of four journalists: Gauri Lankesh, Deyda Heydara, Gerry Ortega and Regina Martínez Péréz.
