Senior Project Controller Collapse
Free Press Unlimited is looking for an experienced and independent Senior Project Controller (32–38 hours per week) who will be responsible for the financial management and accountability of our international projects and grant implementation. You will ensure reliable financial project reporting, support project audits and make a tangible contribution to a solid financial foundation for our mission: strengthening press freedom worldwide.
Location: Amsterdam.
Please note that remote work is not posible for this position and candidates must have a valid residence and work permit for the Netherlands to be considered.
What you will be doing
You will act as a sparring partner for Programme Leads, Grant & Compliance Managers, the Head of Finance and the Executive Director with regard to the project portfolio;
Your focus will be on budget-to-actual project monitoring, project risk management and donor reporting (in accordance with the requirements of the grant agreement);
You will assess and advise on the financial aspects of project proposals, e.g. the project budget;
You will check the administrative and accounting processing of all financial documents, in accordance with the prescribed guidelines of the organisation and/or the relevant grant providers;
You prepare both periodic and ad hoc financial analyses and reports based on grant requirements, your own risk assessment and the needs of the project team. You keep the Programme Leads, Grant & Compliance Manager for Programmes, Head of Finance and the Executive Director informed regarding project implementation, opportunities, risks, etc.;
You will coordinate grant audits. Together with the Programme Lead, you will compile the audit dossier and liaise with the external auditor;
You prepare financial statements, statements of account and cash flow forecasts for various grant streams for the benefit of donors and the organisation itself, and monitor the relevant deadlines;
You coordinate and monitor the accounts of international partners.
You support and advise the Finance Assistants in their work.
Who are you?
You are an enthusiastic, experienced finance professional who enjoys bringing structure, clarity and reliability to your work. You work meticulously, keep track of multiple projects at once and take responsibility for the quality of financial processes and reports. You have strong analytical skills, interact easily with colleagues and external parties, and feel at home in an international organisation with a social mission.
What you will bring
- A higher professional education (HBO) qualification in finance or administration, or a university degree in business administration or economics;
- At least 5 years’ experience in a similar role as a Project Controller;
- Experience with project administration, budgets, financial reporting and audit files;
- Experience with financial accountability for donor-funded projects;
- Preferably knowledge of grant conditions and regulations relating to government and EU grants;
- Experience with financial systems; knowledge of AccountView is an advantage;
- Good verbal and written communication skills in English; Dutch is an advantage
- Goede kennis van MS Office, met name Excel.
- Good knowledge of MS Office, particularly Excel.
