The Postcode Lottery
Free Press Unlimited receives financial support from the Postcode Lottery. This multi-year contribution helps us pursue our mission: supporting independent media organisations and journalists worldwide in their vital work of providing people with reliable information.
Press freedom is under pressure around the world. Journalists face threats, intimidation and obstruction. At the same time, access to reliable information is essential for understanding global developments and making informed decisions. The Postcode Lottery’s long-term support helps Free Press Unlimited continue its work for independent journalism. As the contribution is unrestricted, we have the flexibility to direct our resources where they are needed most.
The Postcode Lottery Fund for Journalists
A concrete example of our collaboration is the Postcode Lottery Fund for Journalists. Through this fund, Free Press Unlimited supports journalists in producing international reports. The fund contributes towards travel and accommodation costs for journalistic productions, giving journalists the opportunity to tell stories that might otherwise go untold. Applications are assessed, among others, on journalistic quality and societal relevance. Through this fund, the collaboration helps produce independent journalism and improve access to reliable information about developments around the world.
A long-standing partnership
The Postcode Lottery has supported Free Press Unlimited since April 2011. The collaboration was initially established through Free Voice, one of the organisations from which Free Press Unlimited was formed.
In 2026, the partnership was renewed for another five years. The new agreement takes effect on 1 January 2027. The Postcode Lottery will therefore continue to support Free Press Unlimited’s work in the years ahead.
About the Postcode Lottery
The Postcode Lottery was founded in 1989 to support charities working towards a just, healthy and green world. The lottery raises funds for charitable organisations and helps raise awareness of their work. More than 3 million people participate in the Postcode Lottery. Each participant’s postcode serves as their lottery number. Every month, participants have the chance to win prizes together with their neighbours who also take part. At the same time, at least 40% of each ticket price goes towards supporting 150 charitable organisations every year. Since its establishment, the Postcode Lottery has donated more than €8.7 billion to people and nature.
