Help us protect journalists
Ever since Russia's full scale invasion of Ukraine on 24 February 2022, Ukrainian independent media have been under great pressure. Many journalists have fled the country, but there are media outlets that have continued to report from the ground. This is not without risk. It is crucial that they can continue their work, because reliable information is life-saving. That's why we introduced Media Lifeline Ukraine: a coalition to protect journalists and keep reliable information available.
Thus far, we have been able to provide support to almost 1100 journalists in and around Ukraine. This support included relocating and evacuating journalists to safe areas, or to other countries like Poland, and later on changed to more long term support to keep the production of news going. Our media hub in Poland now hosts a team of Ukrainian journalists who work with 10 media outlets operating from within Ukraine. Together they have published 126 stories to keep people in the region informed.
